Who will be in charge of my child?
Two trained high school age or college age counselors (ratio of 1 counselor to 6 campers for Pioneers, 1 counselor to 8 campers for Badgers) will be responsible for one cabin. The Badger or Pioneer camp director will assist the counselors.
How many staff do you have in the summer?
There are 36 counselors (20 for Badgers, 16 for Pioneers), 2 camp nurses, and 2 camp directors (Badger and Pioneer) who make up the Camp Calvin staff besides the Camp Whitcomb-Mason staff that assists with life guarding, food service, maintenance, etc.
Will Camp Calvin give my child medical attention?
A caring nurse is on duty at all times and will dispense medication according to instructions. If your child needs medical attention while at camp, the nurse will assist your child or see to it that your child gets advanced treatment from a local doctor (you will be notified) or at our nearest hospital (20 minutes away).
What safeguards do you have at the pool and waterfront and during other activities?
Camp Whitcomb-Mason provides Red Cross-certified lifeguards at both the pool and the waterfront. All other activities are closely supervised by our counselors.
How long has Camp Calvin been around?
Camp Calvin has been around for over 40 years. In the early years, Camp Calvin was held at a camp near Lake Geneva. Camp Calvin has been at our present location for approximately 15 years.
My child is only in 4th grade. Do you have age-appropriate games and activities for them?
Yes! Camp Calvin is split into essentially two camps: Pioneers and Badgers. The Pioneers are campers going into 4th thru 6th grades. The Badgers are campers going into 7th thru 9th grades. These camps are run entirely separate except for worship time at night. Each camp is programmed specifically for the age group of the campers.
Do the campers wander around by themselves all day?
Campers and their counselors stay together as a cabin throughout the week except for clan competition, when the campers are with their clan leaders. Campers attend all activities and meals together as a cabin.
What is a clan?
A clan consists of approximately 10-16 campers (male & female) that are led in games and competition by a counselor. Clans encourage team work, build self esteem, instill camaraderie and motivate with enthusiasm, each person to do their best.
What kind of meals do you serve?
Camp Calvin serves great meals that kids love with lots of extras including a salad bar.
Can we call or visit our child at camp?
You may write your child often, but visits or phone calls are not allowed. You will be notified if a situation arises that needs your attention.
When will we receive our child’s cabin assignment?
Your camper will receive his/her cabin assignment when they arrive for camp. We do our very best to place campers with at least one listed cabin mate.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations for any reason that are received before May 20 will receive a full refund. Cancellations received after May 20 and until the beginning of camp will not receive a full refund except for medical or other emergency reasons (death in the family, etc.). No refunds will be made for dismissals due to disciplinary action, late arrivals, or early departures.
When is the final payment due?
All camper fees must be paid in full by May 20.
In an emergency how can I contact my child?
If you are planning to be away from home during your camper’s stay at Camp Calvin, please make sure our staff has clear information about how to reach you in case of an emergency.
In the event of an emergency situation, to relay an urgent message to your camper, please call the Camp Whitcomb-Mason main office at 262-538-1190 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 11:00 PM and at 262-538-1878 between the hours of 11:00 PM and 8:00 AM.
